Preparing to soar beyond the classroom
In the Upper School, scholars continue the study of both the Chinese and English languages while being exposed to an increasingly rigorous educational program. They also have the opportunity to pursue further studies in areas in which they are developing a particular passion.
Specialized honors and AP classes are taken alongside the required student life program, which supports social and emotional development, physical and mental health as well as academic enrichment. Educators will also work to prepare each scholar for the rigors of college-level study.
Graduation Requirements
Upper School scholars at Shanghai Huaer Collegiate School are required to meet certain requirements in order to graduate. Our Graduation Requirements are designed to ensure that three educational objectives are met:

Scholars are exposed to a variety of educational experiences afforded by a liberal arts education

Scholars have the foundational knowledge and skills for advanced study of subjects and participation in activities in which they have begun to discover a particular passion

Scholars have the opportunity to develop their individual passions through specialized study of advanced level elective courses and deep exploration in experiential learning programs
Passion Pathways
Scholars in our Upper School are permitted to select a number of elective courses from the academic and student life programs. These Passion Pathways are based on their developing interests and passions. Scholars may also take honors and AP classes as part of their Passion Pathway.
